Design Brief

10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it. Im going to make a Microsoft Power point for the 6th graders. Im making this because the 6th graders need to know exactly what the Design Cycle is.
Formulate a Design Specification
11. What are the requirements for this assignment?
  • has to be quick and easy
  • has to also be neat
  • 6th graders have to understand it
  • has to be less than than 3 or 2 minutes
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment?  My limitation is to have my slide show be 2-3 minutes long.
13. How will you "test" your project? I will test it by giving the 6th graders 3 different surveys/ tests, and see if they pass them.

Investigation Reflection

I would say that I would be at a 5 because I already compared the two choices, I already chose one but, I haven't done the actual project using Microsoft Power point. I compared Google Sites and Microsoft Power point, because I planned to do a slide show for the Design Cycle project. When I compared both of them, it showed me which one was much easier and faster to do. I chose Microsoft Power point, I already know how to use it and what each symbol stands for. All that is left for me to do is to just do the actual slide show using Microsoft Power point.

Design

I ended up choosing Sample 1, because I felt it was it most organized and neat way to do it. The other samples were good but, they were a little disorganized for me. I like to put the title first, then the information, and at the end, the picture. All, three samples were good, but Sample 1 was the one that standed out the most.

Day 3 Comparison

Google Sites
Measurements
Score (1-5)
Simplicity
  4
Fonts
  5
Music
  0

In simplicity, for Google sites I gave it a 4. I gave it a 4 because it wasn't that hard to do, but there were some flaws to it. I thought that it would of taken me longer because I had never used Google Sites before, but it turned out to be much easier as I thought it would be. Overall  for simplicity, it was not that hard of a challenge to do.

In fonts, for Google Sites, I gave it a 5. I gave it a 5 because in Google Sites you can have any type of fonts you want. At first I thought that it would only be one type of font, but it turned out that you have many choices! Having choices for fonts is very important because you do need different sizes for the titles, then the actual texts as well as many other things. Overall for fonts, it was a very fast and easy thing to do for a slide show.

For music in Google Sites I gave it a 0. I gave it a 0  because in Google Sites, you can have music but I think that it wouldn't be as much as a help as it should be. It can be a very fun thing to do, but it will only distract the people who are listening to your presentation. Overall I gave music a 0 because if you use it will not help you, instead it will backfire on you.

  Microsoft Power point
Measurements
Score (1-5)
Simplicity
  5
Fonts
  5
Music
  0

In simplicity for Microsoft Power point, I gave it a 5. I gave it a 5 because it was real fast and easy to do. At first when I looked at it, it looked complicated, but then when I started doing it it became real easy. Overall for simplicity, it was a real fast and much easier way to do a power point/slide show.

In fonts for Microsoft Power point, I gave it a 5. I gave it a 5 because Microsoft Word also allows you to have different fonts and has many choices of fonts for power points. It is a very good thing that Microsoft Power point has different choices of fonts to enlarge any kind of titles, or other texts. Overall for fonts, it was a real fast, easy and useful way to create a slide show/power point.

In music, I gave it a 0. I gave it a 0 because having music will distract the people you are teaching. Microsoft power point can have music added, but it will just backfire on you. Overall for music, I gave it a 0  because it will not help you, instead it will make the people you are teaching get distracted real easily.

Day 2 Investigation Reflection

So far my idea is to create a slide show. The two tools I want to compare are Microsoft powerpoint and Google sites. I haven't compared the two,but I plan to in the future. I went to Mrs. Hinojosa's blog and clicked on video tools, which took me to Google Sites. I clicked on it and it showed me how to use and create a slide show and how I can insert pictures in and many designs. I took kind of a tutorial and it helped me understand exactly how to use it. And you can use any where you go without saving it in a pen drive. The other link that I clicked to compare was Microsoft power point. In this link, I can create a power point with pictures. The only catch is that if I'm going to work on it, Im going to have to carry it with me on a pen drive. These two are some what a like, but one has more of an advantage of the other.
I decided to use Microsoft power point because it was much faster and easier to use for this kind of project. Yes, I have to carry it in a pen drive, but I believe its better this way than using it on different computers. Whenever I'm using it, I might forget to exit it out, and someone could get in and erase the data I have. On Google sites, the students could get distracted by the designs the slide has, instead of paying attention to the actual information.
Area of Interaction: Community and Service , Approaches to Learning & Human Ingenuity
Significant Concept: Design Cycle can be used to solve problems
Unit Question: How can my learning help my community? How do I make Sound Choices?
INVESTIGATE: (Write in complete sentences) Identify the Problem
1. What is the problem you need to solve? Explain to a 6th grader what the design cycle is all about by creating a presentation. (3d, PPT, movie, game, Poster)
2. How does the Design Cycle apply to the real world? This cycle applies to the world by helping us plan and create anything from projects (of work,business..etc),to building actual buildings.
3. How will this project serve my community? It will serve my community by helping me do and solve more things around and about my community, and help each other out when we need it.
4. How can my learning help my community? My learning can help my community by being able to do more and better efficient things.
5. How do we live in relation to each other? We live in relation to each other by helping each other out when we need it, and ask each other questions when we don't understand something.
6. How does this help others? This helps others by having things more organized and doing things more faster.
7. What are the requirements for this assignment? The requirements for this assignment is to do something-power point,movie..etc, that will HELP a 6th grader know what the design cycle is. It must be filled with knowledgeable things, and must be helpful.
8. What is the Design Cycle? The Design Cycle is the problem solving method and is used to help people (students) to create and evaluate solutions for problems/challenges.
REFLECT on your learning.
Day 2
9. Spend one day experimenting with DESIGN CYCLE your presentation. List five things your learned about the Design Cycle:
Day 3
Design Brief
10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it.
Formulate a Design Specification
11. What are the requirements for this assignment?
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment?
13. How will you "test" your presentation?
REFLECT ON YOUR LEARNING
PLAN:
14. Brainstorm ideas. Use the chart below
IB Brainstorming Chart .pdf found in schoology under “materials”& then files
15. What idea did you choose to demonstrate the design cycle and why did you choose it?
16. Does your idea meet all of the requirements?
17. Use the story board paper below to plan your presentation.  Include how many levels you will have, what will be on each level, how will you include teaching skills to young students, and what will your questions be about.
story board.pdf found in schoology under “materials” & then files.
18. Explain how you will use your time to get your project finished in 12 days:
REFLECT on your learning
EVALUATE:
20. How could you improve your presentation?
21. Does your presentation meet all of the requirements?
22. Share your presentation with at least 2-8th, 3-9th, 4-10th+ friends. What did he/she like about your presentation?
23. Reflect on all the steps of the Design Cycle. What did you do well? What do you need to improve?
24. Were you responsible in using the software, Internet, pictures, and computer?
25. How can my learning help my community?
26. What grade do you deserve on this project? (1 - 6)

ATTITUDE:
27. Reflect on your attitude on each step of the Design Cycle. Did you completely answer each step without complaining, being a whiny baby, or saying "it's too hard". Explain your answer:
28. What grade do you deserve on your attitude? (1 - 6)
